April 6, 2020
A referendum for the division of Palawan province into possibly three areas is still on for May 11.
Last November, the poll body scheduled the conduct of the plebiscite to ratify the division of the province of Palawan into three provinces on May 11.Republic Act No. 11259 called for a plebiscite for the creation of Palawan del Norte, Palawan Oriental, and Palawan del Sur.
Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Rowena Guanzon, in her Twitter post, said: "COMELEC suspended preparation for Palawan plebiscite but plebiscite not postponed yet."
"It is in May. But we will see this month if possible," said Guanzon.
In a March 25 memorandum, Comelec decided to suspend preparatory activities to the May 11 plebiscite.
This, the commission en banc said, is due to the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) imposed by President Rodrigo Duterte in Luzon. DMS
