Commission on Appointments rejects Lopez as DENR secretary

The bicameral Commission on Appointments on Wednesday has rejected the ad interim appointment of Gina Lopez as secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). Lopez is the second cabinet member of President Rodrigo Duterte to be rejected by the appointments commission. The first one was Perfecto Yasay Jr as secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs. Mining shares at the Philippine Stock Exchange jumped following the news. The mining sub-index of the PSE index rose 4.46 percent, led by Marcventures Holdings up 11 17 percent, Lepanto up 10.60 percent and Benguet Mining  up 10 percent. DMS
