A police officer who was accused as the brains in the ambush of Balaoan Vice Mayor Alfred Concepcion and his security escort in La Union last November 14, 2018 surrendered to the authorities, according to the Ilocos region police on Tuesday.
Police Brigadier General Rodolfo Azurin Jr., the regional director, said Police Master Sergeant Dario Naval Cahigas, assigned at the Regional Police Holding Assistance Service of Police Regional Office 1 surrendered during the implementation of a warrant of arrest in San Fernando City last Monday afternoon.
Azurin said Cahigas was charged with two counts of murder and four counts of attempted murder
Azurin said he will exert more stringent efforts in probing police officers with criminal and administrative cases in line with the internal cleansing program of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
“He will undergo judicial proceedings and shall serve the penalty prescribed by the law if proven guilty. We will not tolerate any form of misconduct in the rank and file. We will make sure that the rules will be implemented squarely,” Azurin said.
Cahigas is under the custody of San Fernando City police station for proper disposition. Ella Dionisio/DMS
