Cop, eight persons arrested in drug buy-bust operation in Quezon City

A policeman and eight drug suspects were arrested in a buy-bust operation in Quezon City on Sunday night.
Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar, Quezon City Police Director, said arrested were Police Officer 1 Christopher Guevarra, 36, assigned at the PNP Manila Maritime Police Station, Ismael Pangilinan, 42, Lloyd Oliver Araneta, 29, Ricky Alay-ay, 32, Ernesto Manzano, 23, Herculano Artiaga Jr, 30, Apolinar Baybay Jr., 32, Coko Moreno, 38, Vladimir Tavas, 26, all residents of Montalban, Rizal.
“The report from the QCPD (Quezon City Police District) Crime Laboratory confirmed Guevarra who entered the police service in 2009 at Maritime Group, was positive for illegal drug use after a confirmatory test,” he said.
Eleazar said the suspects were arrested at the residence of Norman Chua at San Miguel St., Group 13, Brgy. Payatas by Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) operatives of PS-6 at around 6:00 pm.
He said the buy-bust operation was implemented against known drug peddlers Chua and Pangilinan but Chua escaped while the 13-year-old son of Pangilinan was recovered.
“Chua managed to escape after sensing that he was dealing with a cop. During the operation, police caught Guevarra with the other suspects in a shabu session,” Eleazar said.
“Confiscated were 18 sachets of shabu, a digital weighing scale, drug paraphernalia and the buy-bust money,” he noted.
“Guevarra’s issued firearm, a 9mm pistol with magazine loaded with four ammunition, and his PNP ID were also seized,” he added. Robina Asido/DMS
