March 3, 2019

A Cameroonian was arrested by cops for alleged swindling in Quezon City last Saturday.

Quezon City Police District Brigadier General Joselito Esquivel Jr. said the suspect identified as Karl Heinz Akom Obi, alias Jackson Smith, 29 years old, was arrested in an entrapment operation by Batasan Police Station 6 in Brgy. Holy Spirit, Quezon City around 6:30 pm.

Obi allegedly convinced his four victims to invest in his business to double their money.

Police report said on February 28, inside the victims’ residence, alias Jackson Smith arrived and by means of sweet talks and false pretenses, convinced the victims to produce P250,000.00 for the investment.

The suspect initially demanded from the victims P5,000.00 to be used in buying chemicals to process the money. He left and went back with white powder needed to reproduce bills.

“The victims gave the P245, 000.00 cash to the suspect who immediately put the money to a yellow plastic bag and put inside a black bag pack and was mixed with the said chemicals. After 30 minutes, suspect moved out the money from the yellow plastic bag and covered it again with several plastic bags. He also instructed the victims to press the money with heavy object for 10 to 12 hours before opening it,” report said.

On March 1, the suspect told one of his victims through phone call to provide additional cash to buy another quantity of chemicals to process more money.

The victims became suspicious and decided to open the said bundle of money and with the use of Ultraviolet light, they discovered that it was fake prompting them to report the incident to the authorities.

Upon receiving the report, operatives conducted an entrapment operation that led to the arrest of the suspect and the seizure of P250,000 fake money.

The suspect will be charged with swindling through estafa or a violation of Article 315 of the Revised Penal Code. Ella Dionisio/DMS
