COVID-19 cases in Manila going down in past few weeks

September 15, 2020

Coronavirus disease ( Covid-19) cases in Manila decreased in the past few weeks, Mayor Francisco Domagoso said in a radio interview on Tuesday.

"Usually we have 1,400 or 1,300 daily active cases but for the past weeks it already decreased to 800 sometimes 900," Domagoso said.

"Yesterday there were 813 active cases, 9,000 plus accumulative cases, 358 died... and thank God almost 8,400 have survived," he added.

Domagoso said the city of Manila focuses on increasing the survival rate of infected patients.

"Now, if it is difficult to stop the infection, where is our control as government? I said here we have control on how to make our infected person survive," he said.

"There is no guarantee but if we can raise the bar of ample health services maybe we can increase their survival rate. That is the focus of the city government," he added.

"We purchased machines. We developed health facilities. We acquire medicines known in the whole world just to save the lives of the children of Manila," said Domagoso.

"We have little success in terms of numbers. Numbers don’t lie so I owe to my doctors and nurses. The 9,000 infections is big but you have to weigh it in. Manila has about 2.4 mMillion population during night time. It will reach 3 million during daytime," he added.

Domagoso also mentioned that when the new laboratory will be built in Manila, the testing capacity will increase to 1000 a day.

"We have already tested 25,000. We provide free testing to all that who come to Manila and until now our drive thru testing is still operational," he added. Robina Asido/DMS
