September 3, 2020
The Department of Health (DOH) said Thursday new coronavirus disease ( COVID-19) cases fell below 2,000 to 1,987, a level seen late July.
This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 228,403.
The National Capital Region (NCR) with 818 accounted for majority of the new COVID-19 cases.
Thursday's data came as the DOH said case doubling data as of August 31 improved to 10.08 days as compared to 1.55 days in March 15.
"As we have said before, the longer doubling time we have, the slower the spread of the transmission is," said Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire in an online media forum Wednesday.
Sixty five persons died from COVID-19, the DOH said, bringing total fatalities to 3,688. Thirty five of these deaths took place in the NCR.
The DOH said 880 patients overcame COVID-19, raising total recoveries to 159,475. DMS
