Davao City extends ECQ until April 26
April 16, 2020
DAVAO CITY – Authorities extended until April 26 the enhanced community quarantine to prevent residents from their homes against quarantine protocols and to manage the improving trend in containing the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio announced on Wednesday night the extension of the coverage of the ECQ.
“That is one-half of an incubation period for the virus,” she said over radio station Davao City Disaster Radio operated by the city government.
She said there will be more strict implementation of limiting people’s movement.
The region has reported no new infection and no deaths for five days.
As of Wednesday, the Southern Philippines Medical Center and three confinement centers for probable COVID-19 patients has admitted 137 persons, 14 of whom have been confirmed positive.
Since containment last month, there were already 17 deaths, and four have recovered.
Duterte-Carpio said not all of the cases were from Davao City but were included for monitoring.
Heavy equipment vehicles were sent to block off streets near the checkpoints to enforce a one-lane passage after Duterte-Carpio warned she would also call on Army battle tanks to contain flow of private cars. DMS
