DBM releases P804.86m to settle pension arrears to World War II veterans

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has released funds amounting to PhP 804.86 Million to the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) to cover the payment of pension arrears to World War II veterans for 2018.
The amount covers the total administrative disability (TAD) pensionaArrears to 6,046 surviving spouses of deceased World War II veterans.
This pension is a monthly entitlement of P1,700 awarded to veterans upon reaching the age of 70. Living veterans receive their entitlement on a monthly basis, while arrears are awarded to surviving spouses of World War II Veterans and other eligible deceased veterans upon approval of requests made by PVAO.
A total of P1.65 billion has been allocated for the full payment of arrears. As such, another P841.87 million is set to be released within the year for the same purpose, subject to submission of special budget bequest to be supported by a list of pensioners or claimants.
The amount is charged against the pension and gratuity fund of the 2018 General Appropriations Act (GAA). DMS
