October 5, 2018
Chief Justice Teresita Leonardo de Castro on Friday retired from a 45-year government career, capped by 44 days as head of the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court held its retirement ceremony for De Castro who will be 70 years old on October 10.
During her valedictory address, De Castro traced her legal and judicial career, acknowledged the love and support of her family.
“She also noted the lack of collegiality in decision-making on administrative matters during the last few years and enumerated the many things that she had accomplished in 44 days as chief justice,” said Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra, who attended the retirement rites.
De Castro was appointed chief justice by President Rodrigo Duterte on Aug. 25 following the ouster of Maria Lourdes Sereno whose appointment as chief justice was nullified by the SC in quo warranto proceedings. DMS
