De Lima leaves PNP Custodial Center for brief medical test

March 12, 2018

Senator Leila de Lima underwent an examination of her liver at the Philippine Heart Center on Monday afternoon, her spokesperson said.

Ferdie Maglalang said de Lima arrived at the Philippine Heart Center from the Philippine National Police Custodial Center around 3 pm. "Stayed for one hour and thirty minutes more or less," Maglalang told the Daily Manila Shimbun in a text message.

De Lima, in a statement, said her doctor at the PNP General Hospital on February 15 " ordered that I have to immediately undergo further examination, particularly “CT Scan (tri-phase) of the liver” due to a finding of an impression of a “liver mass”.

"As prescribed by my doctor, the  test is necessary to determine if the 'liver mass' is benign or malignant," she said.

De Lima said the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court granted her a one-day leave on March 12 for the CT scan.

The results were not revealed but de Lima said in her statement: "There is nothing to worry about. This is just part of a routine medical check-up to determine if I should go through an operation to avoid any complications."

De Lima has been at the Custodial Center since February 2017 after a judge issued a warrant for her arrest over her alleged drug links with inmates at the New Bilibid Prisons. DMS
