De Vera designated as CHED officer-in-charge
January 26, 2018
President Rodrigo Duterte has designated Commissioner Prospero de Vera III as officer-in-charge of the Commission on Higher Education.
In a memorandum issued by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea on January 24 and released on Friday, it said the appointment of de Vera would make sure the continuous and effective delivery of public service.
The appointment was effective immediately.
De Vera replaced Patricia Licuanan who quit from her post recently after a phone call from Medialdea asking her to resign as chairperson of CHED.
While Licuanan's term was supposed to end in July 2018, she decided it was time to go.
In December 2016, Duterte, through Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco Jr., asked Licuanan not to attend Cabinet meetings. This was shortly after Duterte also asked Vice President Leni Robredo from opposition Liberal Party from attending Cabinet meetings, prompting her to quit as the concurrent chairperson of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council.
Licuanan was an appointee of former President Benigno Aquino III. Celerina Monte/DMS
