Del Rosario urges new strategy to take sea row with China to UN
September 1, 2019
Former Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario said a new strategy should be prepared to take the South China Sea case to United Nations after Chinese Premier Xi Jinping rejected the 2016 arbitral tribunal ruling in his bilateral talks with President Rodrigo Duterte.
"It will take time and hard work, but we must do this for the sake of our many generations to come," the ex-diplomat said in a statement on Saturday.
The arbitral tribunal invalidated China's claim to the South China Sea but the Philippines chose to put it on the back burner to rebuild ties with its neighbor.
Duterte brought up the arbitral tribunal ruling in his talks with Xi.
Del Rosario urged Filipinos to convince our leadership ''that we need to strengthen our resolve, and not have it weakened.'' Cristina Eloisa Baclig/DMS
