Dela Rosa open to running for senate in 2019
May 11, 2017
Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald dela Rosa is open to a possible run for the Senate in the 2019 midterm elections if it would mean serving the public in another capacity. "If I could be of help to the country by being a senator, why not?" Dela Rosa said in an interview over dzMM radio. “Who doesn’t want to be a senator? It’s good to be a senator but I have no plans." Dela Rosa said he does not have funds for a senatorial campaign and he added announcing political plans too early could be a mistake. Among former police officials, Panfilo Lacson Jr became a senator while some have become congressmen. Dela Rosa is set to retire on January 2018 He said he will leave it up to Duterte if he would be appointed to a government position when he retires next year. “I will not demand or say what I want,” he said. If he will not be appointed by Duterte, Dela Rosa said he will return to his home province of Davao del Sur. DMS
