Dela Rosa “peeved” with critics, but says he “can’t please everyone”

July 17, 2017

Philippine National Police Director General Ronald Dela Rosa said he is "a little peeved" with the critics of his leadership. "We are "a little peeved" despite we don't get sleep despite the effort of our police to clean the streets and bring back the safe environment to our people. That's normal because you can't please everyone", he said in an interview after the flag raising ceremonies. Senator Richard  Gordon called PNP chief Dela Rosa a "Bato'gan" for failing to address the problem of riding-in-tandem. "He can call me whatever things he want to call me. That is included in our job, we accept the insults, the bad words  They will doubt you. They will ball you out", Dela Rosa said. He said PNP solved many riding-in-tandem cases since July 1, 2016 up to present. A total of four riding in tandem suspects killed, 53 arrested suspects and 45 filed cases from the 65 police operations in Southern Police District alone, he said. Dela Rosa reminded Gordon that a "Bato'gan" can be a "Bato'machine gun". Dela Rosa said PNP has submitted a position paper for martial law extension that will cover the whole Mindanao on Friday. When asked how long is the PNP’s recommended extension of martial law, he said: "I can't tell. Until we catch all identified politicians and assure that there is no widespread drug problem". Dela Rosa said the martial law extension aims to solve the problem of loose firearms in Mindanao specially in Marawi and Lanao Del Sur. "We have to account the firearms before we may lift the martial law", he said. (Alanna Ambi/DMS)
