Dela Rosa quits BuCor, runs for senator
October 12, 2018
Former Philippine National Police chief Ronald dela Rosa said he will push for reviving the death penalty if he is elected senator in the May 2019 polls. Interviewed by reporters after filing his certificate of candidacy (COC) on Friday, dela Rosa said: “We will push for the restoration of death penalty.” He said the death penalty is needed to cope with heinous crimes and other drug-related cases. Dela Rosa, who was Bureau of Corrections director after he retired from the PNP, will be replaced by Nicanor Faeldon, deputy administrator of the Office of Civil Defense. “My focus will be on law enforcement, safety and security, and corrections,” said dela Rosa, who will be running under the PDP-Laban party. Dela Rosa said President Rodrigo Duterte told him to run for senator. “I got the instructions of the President. He told me to run for senator,” he said. He said his decision to run is due to his desire to serve the public. “I am still young and I know that I have a lot more to offer the people,” said dela Rosa. DMS
