Dela Rosa thanks Duterte for supporting PNP

July 24, 2017

Philippine National Police Director General Ronald Dela Rosa said Monday he is "very thankful" to President Rodrigo Duterte for his support to the police force, "From the bottom of my heart thank you, Mr. President for all the support you have given the PNP. we cannot ask for more. We know that you really love the PNP. Thank you very much in behalf of my men in the field" Dela Rosa said after the flag ceremony in Camp Crame. He said police officers need more  equipment to enhance their capabilities. "Move, shoot, communicate and investigate capability enhancement, I really want to improve--if it is possible-- we can buy helicopter, buy high powered firearms which is we already ordered but is has not been distributed yet, we really need that in our fight against terrorism, insurgency", he said. Dela Rosa said policemen are receiving additional allowance from the government instead of a salary increase. "Because when we say salary increase, basic pay that is too heavy for the government because that will include a lot of retirees so they are giving us in the form of allowance", he said. The PNP will wear a new uniform made by the Directorate for Research and Development (DRD), Dela Rosa said. He said the current uniform is made of 90 percent polyester while 10 percent cotton and the new uniform is made out of 50 percent polyester and 50 percent cotton. "This is the first time I wear it... it is good for me, very comfortable. It is thin and light. The air is able to enter, very comfortable to wear", he said. Dela Rosa said the new uniform has the same design as the current uniform. It will be subsidized by the replacement clothing allowance of the PNP. The PNP officials will not earn money from the production of the new uniform, he said. "I made sure that no one will get money from this because that's corruption", he said. (Alanna Ambi/DMS)
