The Department of Foreign Affairs assured on Friday the family of a 48-year old slain Filipina in Japan that justice will be served.
In a statement, the DFA said it extends its condolences to the family of the Filipina who was fatally stabbed in Shizuoka prefecture on Thursday evening.
In a report by Mainichi, it identified the victim as Haga Rowena Casimiro, a resident of the city's Tenryu Ward.
The DFA said the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo reported that the victim succumbed to her injuries at a hospital in Hamamatsu on Friday.
"Ambassador to Japan Jose C. Laurel V assured the family of the victim that all efforts will be exerted to ensure that justice is served," the DFA said.
Further quoting Laurel, it said the Embassy is working closely with Japanese police authorities who have informed him that a suspect is now in their custody.
Mainichi, quoting Shizuoka Prefectural Police's Hamamatsu Chuo Police Station, identified the 45-year-old suspect as Yasumasa Yamaguchi, an unemployed resident of Hamamatsu's Higashi Ward.
The news agency said that Casimiro and Yamaguchi had a relationship and broke up in June.
But the suspect reportedly stalked the victim because he wanted their relationship back, prompting her to report him to the police who issued a warning to him under the Anti-Stalking Act. Celerina Monte/DMS
