DFA: No Filipinos hurt in Mexico quake
February 17, 2018
No Filipinos were reported hurt in Mexico, which was rocked by magnitude 7.2 earthquake, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Saturday.
"No casualties have been reported, either among the Filipino community or among the Mexican populace," the DFA said, quoting a report from the Philippine Embassy in Mexico.
It said the Embassy continues to monitor the situation and check with the Filipino community members to confirm their status and safety.
The earthquake, with the epicenter located around 600 kilometers from Mexico City, was felt at around 5:30 pm local time (7:30 am, Saturday, Manila time).
The shaking lasted for 30 seconds to one minute and damaged some buildings in Mexico City and Oaxaca State.
Several aftershocks were also recorded.
The quake itself, however, was not as violent as the major temblor that struck the city on September 19, 2017 and caused over 300 fatalities, the DFA noted. DMS
