DFA raises alert level 1 for Filipinos in Guam, Northern Marianas
August 14, 2017
The Department of Foreign Affairs declared alert level 1 for Filipino living in Guam and Northern Marianas over a threat by North Korea to launch missiles towards the area, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Monday.
Foreign Affairs department spokesman Robespierre Bolivar said in a Viber account this means the consulate is coordinating with "the local (meaning Guam) emergency management authorities and is constantly updating the Filipino community of any developments."
Bolivar said "life in Guam remains normal" but urged Filipinos to monitor the events closely.
In a statement, Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano said: " I ask our post, to articulate the contingency plans so that Filipinos abroad will know what to do. Most important thing at the start of the crisis is you know who to talk to, where to go, how to communicate. If you have all of that, that’s half of the battle. Then everything else depends on the circumstances on the ground." DMS
