DFA urges Filipinos in Iraq to take precautions amid unrest

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has reminded anew the Filipinos in Baghdad and other parts of Iraq to take the necessary precautions in view of the ongoing unrest in the country.
In a statement on Saturday, the DFA said the Filipinos, especially those in Baghdad, are advised to remain indoors and to avoid any movement especially in areas where demonstrations are taking place.
"Filipinos are also advised to make sure they have enough food and water and to call the Philippine Embassy in Baghdad if they require assistance," it said.
The Foreign Affairs department asked thr families in the Philippines to relay the advisory to their next of kin working in Iraq in view of the interruption in communication services.
They can also go to the Office of the Undersecretery for Migrant Workers’ Affairs or the nearest DFA offices should they need assistance, it added.
Reports said that death toll from anti-government protests in Iraq has increased to about 100 since they erupted early this week. Celerina Monte/DMS
