DILG placed under lockdown for seven days

July 6, 2020

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Napolcom Center was placed under lockdown for seven days as a preventive measure following a report that one of its senior officials tested positive for COVID-19, DILG said on Monday.

Interior Undersecretary and spokesperson Jonathan Malaya said despite the lockdown, it will not affect the delivery of public service since all central office officials and staff will just shift to work from home mode.

The DILG  will still receive and release documents at the ground floor lobby, added Malaya.

“We understand that DILG is a frontline agency in this pandemic so we cannot stop operations. Our officials will still continue to work at our extension or other offices outside of the DILG-Napolcom Center or from their homes while all our attached agencies are fully operational, especially the PNP (Philippine National Police), BJMP (Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, and BFP (Bureau of Fire Protection),” Malaya said.

He added the operations of DILG will remain unhampered down to the field units.

Malaya said while the building is on lockdown, the DILG will disinfect the entire building and contact tracing of all personnel will also be done.

He said “No Visitor Policy” will be imposed while DILG personnel are  prohibited from entering or exiting the building. In extreme cases where key officials and executives really need to enter the office premises, they will not interact with other offices.

Malaya advised the public to transact official businesses during office hours via calls, emails, or through social media.

The lockdown will be lifted on July 13 and regular office hours will resume on that date. Ella Dionisio/DMS
