DOE donating 45 cars to Region 8 police through Japan gov’t grant
August 15, 2017
The Department of Energy (DOE), thru the Energy Utilization Management Bureau , is donating 45 hybrid patrol cars to the Philippine National Police (PNP) Region 8 in line with its mandate to promote the use of energy-efficient vehicles.
In a statement Tuesday, the DOE said it will hold the turnover ceremony of the 2017 Model of Toyota Prius units on August 16, at the Matapat Hall, PNP Region 8 Headquarters, Camp Kangleon, Palo, Leyte.
The patrol cars are to be distributed in the provinces of Leyte, Samar, Eastern Samar and Northern Samar.
Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi stated that "more than the promotion of efficient and environment-friendly alternative fuel vehicles, the donation serves as an opportunity for the DOE to support the development of areas affected by Typhoon Yolanda."
"It will also assist the DOE in the research, performance testing and promotion for the local adoption of alternative fuel vehicles for the benefit of the consumers," Cusi said .
Key officials of the DOE, the Embassy of Japan, the PNP National Headquarters and the PNP Region 8 will attend the turnover ceremony.
The Government of Japan gave the Philippines a grant amounting to 500 million yen for the procurement and delivery of next generation vehicles (i.e., hybrid vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and electric vehicles) under the Japan Non-Project Grant Aid with the DOE as its implementing agency.
Last May, the DOE donated 24 units of Toyota Prius (2017 Model) to various national government agencies.
"This is part of the E-Power Mo campaign of the DOE to empower the Filipino by giving them more options to suit their needs," Cusi said. DMS
