The Department of Health (DOH) Friday said it will be closely monitoring the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) trend in Cebu City and the Central Visayas region.
In a press briefing, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said: "The Secretary of the DOH has already designated our Epidemiology Bureau to closely monitor the cases and the overall situation in that Region."
"These past few days, we have indeed observed an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in Region 7," she added.
Vergeire said they are coordinating closely with local government units in Central Visayas and the National Task Force on COVID-19.
President Rodrigo Duterte placed Cebu City under ECQ, while Talisay City is put under a modified ECQ until June 30.
Latest DOH data shows there are 4,533 COVID-19 cases in Central Visayas, including 72 deaths and 236 recoveries.
