DOH daily cases reach 3,999; frontline deaths hit 40

The Department of Health (DOH) said Friday that new coronavirus disease(COVID-19) cases reached 3,999 bringing the total to 209, 544.
While cases continue to climb, so do the toll it continues to take for healthcare workers. Forty healthcare workers have died, of which 26 are doctors.
The DOH said there are a total of 6,735 healthcare workers found positive for COVID-19, as of August 26.
It said 6,070 have recovered, while 40 had died.
This leaves 625 healthcare workers who have active COVID-19 cases.
In a virtual press briefing, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said the 26 deceased doctors had comorbidities and being older as the reasons for failing to recover from COVID-19.
"Having comorbidity is the most common; being part of the 60-69 age group; having heart ailments, liver problem, problematic kidney are commonly found among doctors who died," said Vergeire.
Among the new daily cases, the DOH said 91 new deaths were recorded, raising the tally to 3,325 fatalities.The NCR accounted for 55 of these deaths.
There were 510 persons who survived COVID-19 patients, placing total recoveries at 134,474. DMS
