DOH sees more new cases of COVID-19
May 28, 2020
The Department of Health (DOH) said Wednesday they are expecting the number of new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases to rise in the next few days as the results of the tests for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) arecoming in.
In an online media forum, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said the jump from an average of 230 cases in the past two weeks to 350 can be attributed to the release of the repatriated OFWs tested for COVID-19.
"This (jump) was caused by the tests done to OFWs, whose results are already coming into our data system," said Vergeire.
"So we expect that, in the coming days, this will be the trend because we are now including the OFWs, who tested positive for COVID-19," she added.
Majority of cases are still from the National Capital Region (NCR), she said.
The DOH reported 380 new cases on Wednesday, thus surpassing the national total to over 15,000.
Based on the latest Case Bulletin, the DOH reported that there are 15,049 COVID-19 cases in the country.
Eighteen new deaths were recorded Wednesday
This brings to 904 the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the country.
There were also 94 new cases of recoveries among COVID-19 patients, bringing the total to 3,506 recoveries. DMS
