DOH urges LGUs to make COVID-19 reports more accurate
June 15, 2020
The Department of Health (DOH) Monday called on local government units (LGUs) to make COVID-19 reports more accurate.
In a statement, the DOH said:"As we have stated in previous occasions, the fight against COVID-19 entails a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach. The DOH cannot do it alone, neither can the Executive Branch. We need the leadership and cooperation of the LGUs, our frontliners on the grassroots in this battle, as well as our health care providers, and laboratories."
"The timeliness and integrity of the national data are only as good as the submission of our partners on the ground —laboratories, hospitals, and LGUs," it added.
Earlier, the DOH changed the way it presents newly-reported COVID-19 cases, by dividing them into" fresh cases" and "late cases" depending on the dates the laboratory test results were validated by the Epidemiology Bureau.
The DOH also said the recent spike in COVID-19 mortality can be attributed to the late reporting of LGUs.
The DOH noted that over the last few months, reporting delays have been significantly reduced. DMS
