Drug suspect killed, P13.7-M shabu confiscated in Negros Oriental op

An alleged drug suspect died in a buy-bust operation early Sunday morning and P13.7 million worth of illegal drugs were confiscated from him, according to Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office.

Police Colonel Arnel Banzon, NORPPO officer-in-charge, said operatives from Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit conducted an operation against Jomarie Manayon, 26, around 12:20 am at Diversion Road, Barangay Magatas in Sibulan, Negros Oriental.

Banzon said Manayon was included in their high value target list.

The operation was conducted after receiving information that the suspect was involved in an illegal drug trade and that he would be transporting illegal drugs soon in the province.

“The suspect transacted 25 grams of shabu to a police poseur buyer,” he said.

Banzon said the suspect noticed the movement of the police allegedly prompting him to pull his gun and opened fire at the operatives while trying to escape.

However, police personnel returned fire. hitting Manayon on the different parts of his body which caused his instantaneous death.

Confiscated from the suspect were his alleged pistol and around 2,025 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated value of P13,770,000.

Banzon expressed his gratitude to the concerned individual who divulged the information to the police and encouraged others to report any suspicious movement in their area to maintain the peace in the province. Ella Dionisio/DMS
