DSWD gives P424 million assistance to 77, 244 low-income families

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on Monday at least P424 million cash assistance were given to low- income families under the social amelioration program (SAP) of the government.

"As of April 13,12 noon today there are 77, 244 low -income non 4Ps  families from different regions have already received assistance amounting to more than )P424 million," Social Welfare Sec. Rolando Bautista said in a virtual presscon on Monday.

"We have also transferred P48 billion to the local government unit social welfare development offices and P800 million for the BARMM( Bangsamoro Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao)," he added.

Bautista said P80 billion assistance for non 4Ps low -income families was sent to their field offices including BARMM 24 hours after the DSWD received the P100 billion from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) last April 2, 2020.

"From April 3 to 5 the agency have distributed the subsidy of more than 3.7 million families included in the 4Ps, the subsidy for them reached to P16.3 billion," he said.

Bautista said the DSWS has also started distributing emergency subsidy for the 40,418 transportation  drivers working at the National Capital Region amounting to 323 million.

"We expect that the number of beneficiaries who will receive emergency cash subsidy will increase because we continue the payout  nationwide," he said.

Bautista also added that a total of 368,538 family food packs were  distributed to 12 regions in the country. Robina Asido/DMS
