DSWD promised again to complete distribution of 2nd tranche of cash aid by mid-August, says Palace
August 4, 2020
The Department of Social Welfare and Development is asking until middle of August to complete the distribution of second tranche of cash assistance to the low income households and vulnerable sectors, Malacañang said on Tuesday.
This as DSWD has distributed so far over half of the second tranche of the Special Assistance Program, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a virtual press briefing.
"More than half of the second tranche have been distributed. The DSWD is asking until mid-August to complete 100 percent (the distribution of the cash aid)," he said.
As of August 3, Roque noted that 9.5 million families have already received the second tranche of SAP, amounting to P61.8 billion.
Under the Bayanihan To Heal As One Act, over 18 million low income households and vulnerable sectors should be provided cash assistance worth P5,000 to P8,000 depending on the regional minimum wage rate in two tranches.
The law already expired last June and yet the second tranche of SAP has not yet been fully distributed.
The DSWD initially committed to complete the distribution of the second tranche by the end of July.
It promised to automate the distribution of the cash assistance supposedly to fast-track its release to the beneficiaries. Celerina Monte/DMS
