President Rodrigo Duterte hopes that red tape will be cut in government as he certified as urgent the passage of a bill, seeking to expedite processing and issuance of national and local permits, licenses, and certifications, Malacanang said on Wednesday.
In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque confirmed Duterte's certification as urgent the enactment of Senate Bill No. 1844.
"The Chief Executive hopes by simplifying processes and cutting red tape in the Executive branch we will be able to facilitate our country’s economic activity and accelerate socioeconomic recovery, for the betterment of our people," he said.
Radio reports said the Senate, voting 23-0, passed this measure.
Roque said Duterte wants government agencies to be "more responsive" amid the coronavirus pandemic.
"One way to realize this is to improve the delivery of public services," he added. Celerina Monte/DMS
