Duterte does not need to worry about NUPL filing cases after 2022

Malacanang on Monday said President Rodrigo Duterte does not need to worry on the plan of the National Union of Peoples' Lawyer (NUPL) to file a case against him after his term ends on 2022.
“It’s a free country. Everyone is entitled to file any case against those they think violated the law,” said Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo in a press briefing.
“The only worry the president has is the sufferings of the people that’s why he does a lot of things to make life comfortable for them,” he added.
In a statement last Saturday, NUPL national chairperson Neri Colmenares said they will file cases against President Rodrigo Duterte once his term ends in 2022.
“The justice system in the Philippines is unable to provide legal remedies to victims of EJK and other human rights violations because as President Duterte claims, he is immune from suit… That is why we will pursue more cases against him in the UN and other international mechanisms for now,” Colmenares said.
“Such charges are ‘preparations’ for more cases to be filed domestically once the President’s term ends in 2022,” he added. Ella Dionisio/DMS
