Duterte fires GSIS head
July 7, 2019
President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday admitted firing Government Service Insurance System President and General Manager Jesus Clint Aranas.
In his speech in Alangalang, Leyte, Duterte said he fired Aranas while discussing the corruption in the government.
“I did not make any grandeurs or --- what I said, once I win I will deal with corruption. I’m dealing it until now. I just fired the president of the GSIS yesterday (Thursday),” he said.
Malacanang earlier said that Aranas resigned from post due to “personal reasons” and the President accepted it “without any reason nor any comment”.
"The President is now looking for a replacement for the vacated post," Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo had said.
Duterte also said that he will go after the erring Bureau of Customs officials again.
“I will go for the Customs again. There will be a lot of dismissals I hope. And I try to really stop the corruption in the higher crust of government,” he said.
