November 26, 2020

President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as one of his advisers.

Senator Christopher "Bong" Go, Duterte's former aide,  confirmed in a text message to reporters that Arroyo is now the Presidential Adviser on Clark Flagship Projects and Programs.

Arroyo was a House Speaker and Pampanga congresswoman.

In a separate statement, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Arroyo's appointment carries with it "compensation rate of one peso (P1.00) per annum."

"Arroyo's wisdom and her vast experience as a former head of state and head of government, coupled with her great concern in her native Pampanga, would be valuable as she would assist the Administration in planning and execution of programs and projects to turn Clark as the next premier metropolis of Asia," he said.

Meanwhile, Roque also confirmed the signing of nomination of Davao del Norte's provincial election supervisor Aimee P. Ferolino-Ampoloquiuo as commissioner of the Commission on Elections.

Ampoloquio's nomination was signed on November 24.

"With her vast experience in election matters, Ms. Ampoloquio, would certainly contribute in ensuring our elections would be honest, orderly, peaceful, and credible," Roque said in a statement.

Once the Commission on Appointments approved her nomination, Ampoloquio will serve in the poll body until Feb. 2, 2027. She replaced Commissioner Al A. Pareño. Celerina Monte/DMS
