Duterte names new Philippine Commission on Women chair
July 9, 2020
President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed a new Philippine Commission on Women head.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Duterte named Sandra Montano as the new chairperson of the agency, replacing Rhodora Bucoy.
Asked why Bucoy was replaced, Roque, in a virtual press briefing from Davao City, said all the appointees serve at the pleasure of the President and it is his prerogative whoever he wants to appoint.
Prior to her appointment, Montano was a representative of a non-government organization representing the science and health sector at the PCW.
PCW is a policy-making and coordinating body on gender equality and women's empowerment. It is committed to sustain the promotion of women's socio-cultural, economic, civil, and political rights. Celerina Monte/DMS
