Duterte opposes divorce : Roque
March 19, 2018
President Rodrigo Duterte is not in favor of divorce in the country, Malacanang said on Monday.
In a press briefing in Camarines Sur, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Duterte initially did not want to comment on the proposed measure when it was still pending at the House of Representatives.
Since House Bill No. 7303 or “An Act Instituting Absolute Divorce and Dissolution of Marriage in the Philippines” has been approved on second reading at the House, Duterte's position is he is opposed to the proposed measure, he said.
"The president is against divorce," Roque said, citing that due to divorce, children might suffer as a spouse would lose the right to file case against a partner who refuses to financially support them.
