Duterte orders deferment of PhilHealth contribution hike
January 5, 2021
President Rodrigo Duterte ordered on Monday night to suspend the increase in the contribution of the members of Philippine Health Insurance Corporation.
Duterte said he made the order to PhilHealth president and CEO Dante Gierran.
"No increase in contribution. I will look for the money to fill it up," he said.
"Anyway, that is the job of the government to make it easy for everybody at this time," Duterte added.
While there is an order to defer the hike in members' contributions, the Unversal Healthcare Law, however, provides for the increase of prenium rate this year to 3.5 percent of the members' monthly basic salary from 3 percent in 2020. Celerina Monte/DMS
