Duterte plans to go around the country despite pandemic
June 23, 2020
President Rodrigo Duterte said he is planning to go around the country, particularly visiting the government troops, despite the coronavirus disease pandemic.
In a televised message on Monday night, Duterte assured that he would take precautions in order not to be infected by COVID-19.
"In the coming days I intend to go around the country...I will visit military camps. So I'll just have to take precautions," he said.
The President said he also wants to board the country's biggest frigate.
"I want to board just to see how good it is," he said as he asked his staff to arrange it.
Since Duterte assumed the presidency in 2016 and prior to pandemic, Duterte usually visited the military camps in the country, particularly those in Mindanao to check the situation of the soldiers.
He also made it a point to visit the wounded government troops or those who were killed in action.
In a press briefing, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said it would also be up to the Presidential Security Group if Duterte would be allowed to visit the camps and board the military's new frigate. Celerina Monte/DMS
