Duterte says late Sen. Angara his defender to EU
May 15, 2018
President Rodrigo Duterte has cited the important role that former Senator Edgardo Angara played in his administration.
Duterte visited Angara's wake early Tuesday at the Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig City.
The President said Angara acted as his defender everytime he spoke against the European Union.
"We had misunderstanding with the West," he said.
Angara was the President's special envoy to EU.
Duterte described Angara as humble and quiet person, who was really fit to be a diplomat.
"I can never be one (diplomat) ever," he said, noting that before Angara passed away last Sunday, he even went to Malacanang last week.
Duterte became irked with EU when some members of its Parliament criticized his administration's bloody war on drugs.
According to Senator Sonny Angara, his 83-year old father died apparently due to heart attack. Celerina Monte/DMS
