Duterte to expand anti-corruption drive to LGUs
January 9, 2018
President Rodrigo Duterte will expand a campaign against corruption by targeting local government units, Malacanang said on Tuesday.
In a press briefing, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said during the Cabinet meeting on Monday, Duterte mentioned he would continue the process of cleansing the bureaucracy.
"(T)hat he will now turn more of his attention to local government units, including the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao," he said.
Duterte has dismissed several appointees in government due to corruption allegations and for junkets overseas.
While Duterte has not yet formed the Presidential Anti-Graft Commission, Roque said he has begun actual purging of corrupt government officials.
"As you know, even without the commission, he has gone ahead and fired many of his presidential appointees," he said. Celerina Monte/DMS
