Duterte vows not to allow US to drag the Philippines into war

February 22, 2018

President Rodrigo Duterte said on Thursday he will not allow the Philippines to be dragged again into any United States-led war.

In a speech before soldiers in Iloilo City, Duterte said during the previous administrations, the Philippines joined in the wars that America launched, such as in Iraq, Korea and Vietnam.

"You know America on the average, they are good people, they are good in talking. But America's policy is they drag others into any war," he said.

"This time, I will tell them, 'I will not allow the deployment of my countrymen," Duterte said, noting that US has been instigating the Philippines to take action in the South China Sea.

The Philippines and China have been embroiled in the territorial dispute in the South China Sea. But Duterte has taken a soft stance and even made friend with China.
