Duterte warns public vs online transactions
June 5, 2020
President Rodrigo Duterte has warned the public to be cautious in dealing with online sellers as some could be scammers.
In a message aired on Friday morning, Duterte specifically made the warning for medical items, such as masks, which could be purchased online.
"The scams right now such as masks, you're going to order through online...do not go for that kind of shit, you will buy online. Then you're texting with someone from Pampanga, from Abra. Where will they get mask there? Here in Manila, we lack supply," he said.
He added that it would be better to get the goods first before paying anything when transacting online.
"I'd like to address this to everybody: My fellowmen, do not fall for that thing online. It has never been perfected. And all the scams that man could think of that they can perpetuate on the innocent public," Duterte said.
There could also be unscrupulous individuals who were just trying to sell online and when they deliver the order to the buyer's house, they would victimize the buyer, he said.
Duterte also reminded the public not to entertain individuals who are using his name or his children's name in their transactions.
"Don't be fooled, especially those who are using my name, because those using my name are surely engaged in racket," he said. Celerina Monte/DMS
