BAGUIO CITY – Police said Friday since quarantine was imposed on March 16 in this city at least seven suicide incidents were reported.
Col. Allen Rae Co, Baguio City police chief, all the incidents were related to the restrictions . He said a 64-year-man was depressed while waiting for the result of his test for COVID 19 and took his life. But his test was negative.
He said the most recent case, a seven-year-old boy, appeared to be physically abused. He suspects the boy's aunt strangled him to death.
Co said this incident may also be due to pressures restrictions caused. “Such case like these together with other violence are happening at Baguio homes while the people are on quarantine, is alarming,”he added.
Co said easing restrictions of movement can help relax Baguio residents.
Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong said they are seeking the help of a group who offered their services in helping people suffering from depression. He said the group is composed of professionals who suffered the same but recovered and now, they want to give back.
Magalong said people are depressed because they cannot do things they usually do.
Magalong said they are also having a stress debriefing among the barangay officials He said many are stressed because of dealing with their constituents during the enhanced commnity quarantine.
