Electricity rates slightly go up this April: Meralco
April 10, 2017
Meralco announced that the increase for April 2017 for a typical household will amount to 23 centavos per kWh, bringing the overall rate to P9.89 per kWh from last month’s rate of P9.67 per kWh. This amounts to a P45 increase in the total bill of a typical residential household consuming 200kWh. The rate increase this month is mostly due to higher generation charge. Contributing to the increase is higher cost of power from the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), Meralco said. Higher IPPs and WESM prices contributed to the increase in generation charge Overall generation charge increased from P4.90 per kWh in March to P5.10 per kWh for this month. Contributing to the increase is a 39 centavo increase in the cost of power from IPPs and the 78 centavo per kWh increase in WESM prices. DMS
