There will be no classes in all levels in public and private schools in the City of Manila on Friday, said Mayor Joseph Estrada.
In an executive order issued Thursday, Estrada said the Office of the Mayor received reports "from the Manila Police District" of "numerous and massive demonstrations that will be held on the 46th anniversary of the declaration of martial law in the Philippines."
Estrada said the Manila Police District, "as a remedial measure to ensure the safety and security of the public", recommended suspension in all levels, both in public and private schools in the City."
Meanwhile, Philippine National Police spokesman Chief Superintendent Benigno Durana Jr. appealed to students not to join rallies on Friday.
Durana said they received information that groups with links to communist rebels are plotting to create violence during the demonstrations.
"We are appealing to the students. They are right now being instigated by these militant groups to join protest actions to refrain from joining these protest rallies for their own safety," said Durana. DMS
