Familes of 14 fishermen, passengers of fishing vessel rammed by cargo ship to get P1 million each

Families of the missing 14 fishermen and passengers of fishing vessel Liberty 5 that capsized off the waters of Occidental Mindoro will receive compensation from the Hong Kong flagged cargo vessel, MV Vienna Woods, that rammed the ship.
In a virtual presser on Thursday, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commandant, Admiral George Ursabia Jr. announced stakeholders of MV Vienna Wood and FV Liberty 5 will hold a formal settlement for damages from the sea collision in the vicinity of waters off Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro on June 27.
The formal settlement will be held at the PCG headquarters in Port Area, Manila on Monday, August 24.
Ursabia said both parties agreed that on Monday family members of the 12 missing Filipino fishermen and two other passengers of Liberty 5 will receive compensations amounting to one million pesos each from MV Vienna Wood.
The owner of FV Liberty 5, Irma Fishing and Trading Inc., will also receive a settlement ofP 40 million from MV Vienna Wood to cover the cost of the fishing vessel.
It can be recalled that last month, a court in Occidental Mindoro granted the hold departure order against all 20 crew members of MV Vienna Woods after a criminal charges was filed against the officials of the cargo vessel. RobinaAsido/DMS
