Fifteen days after a Panamanian flagged freighter sunk off Japan, the wife one of the missing 40 crew are hoping they are still safe somewhere.
''My husband said they were on the bridge, which is the highest part of the ship. They had life vests and other (safety) gear. They had lifeboats,'' said Liberty Seneres, the wife of a missing seaman, in an interview with dzBB.
Seneres said the Japanese rescue vessels continue to search the area.
The body of Filipino crewman Joel Linao of the M/V Gulf Livestock I, which sunk on Sept 2, is arriving Thursday 5 pm through a PAL flight from Tokyo, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said.
The transfer of Linao's remains from Manila to General Santos City is still being arranged, the labor department said.
The two survivors,Jaynel Rosales and Eduardo Sareno, are set to arrive in the Philippines from Narita on Saturday, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Osaka said.
They are expected to arrive at 5 pm via PAL Flight No. PR 427, it added.
Gulf Livestock 1 sunk in Japanese waters after getting caught in a typhoon. The ship was carrying about 5,800 heads of cattle and 43 crew members, including 39 Filipinos. DMS
