Father of a witness in delos Santos death leaves police custody for Church protection

September 10, 2017

The father of  one of three children who are said to be witnesses in the death of Kian Loyd delos Santos  in a police anti-drug operation is now under the custody of Caloocan Bishop Pablo David.

David said in a press briefing early Sunday, the father, who was with the police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC), asked Saturday that his child be placed under police custody.

But after meeting his child, the man changed his mind and sought to be placed under the custody of the Diocese of Caloocan.

"I told them (CIDG/VACC) that if the father wants to go with them, I am okay with it, we respect that. But finally, the father decided that he wants to be with the Church," said David.

David said the CIDG and the VACC brought the father, who was under their custody, to get his children from the Church. He is freed on bail from a drug case.

David said the CIDG and the VACC resisted the decision of the father, which resulted to a brief tension.

"There was slight tension because the CIDG is convincing the father to at least come with them even without his children," said David.

The custody of the witnesses was transferred from the Senate to David after the witness was presented during the Senate inquiry into the death of delos Santos. DMS
