Filing of raps vs Peter Lim shows gov’t seriousness against illegal drugs – Roque
August 12, 2018
Malacañang on Sunday welcomed the filing of charges against businessman Peter Lim, who allegedly conspired with suspected drug lord Kerwin Espinosa and others in the illegal drug trade.
“The filing of charges by the Department of Justice (DOJ) against Peter Lim shows government’s seriousness and firm resolve in fighting the illicit drug trade,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement.
"Big fish or small, our war against drugs spares no one. It is a war that drug smugglers and traffickers are bound to lose," Roque added.
Last Friday, the DOJ filed cases against Lim before the Makati Regional Trial Court despite his pending petition before the Supreme Court seeking to stop the DOJ’s reinvestigation of the drug charges against him that were previously dismissed by the government prosecutors.
The DOJ filed the information for violation of Section 26 (b) or conspiracy in relation to Section 5 or sale, trading, administration of illegal drugs of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
Senior Assistant State Prosecutor Juan Pedro Navera, head of the DOJ’s panel of prosecutor, stressed that the High Court has not acted on Lim's petition or issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) on the preliminary reinvestigation.
"There's no TRO from the SC, that's why we issued the resolution and filed the case in court," Navera said, in an interview. Ella Dionisio/DMS
