A Filipino fisherman went missing at the vicinity of Scarborough Shoal in West Philippine Sea, a Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) official said on Monday.
Commodore Armando Balilo, PCG spokesman, said Coast Guard in Zambales reported the missing fishermen at around 5pm last Friday.
He identified the missing fishermen as Luz Piliin, 42, of Bgy Mangan Vaca, Subic.
Balilo said Piliin was part of a larger boat, FB Renz Ronel, conducting fishing at the vicinity of the shoal when he went missing on July 26 after he boarded a small boat to look at an area where they could fish.
"Mr. Pilliin encountered big waves and strong winds during the venture and was reportedly failed to come back to the mother boat," he said.
"Other fishermen failed to rescue him because of the inclement weather," he added.
Balilo said last Saturday the PCG veesel BRP Malabrigo was sent for search and rescue operation.
"(A) PCG Islander plane has been alerted to join the rescue," he added. Robina Asido/DMS
